Winnie Vance Sowers Endowed Scholarship

The Winnie Vance Sowers Endowed Scholarship was established as a bequest of the Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth “Betty” Nichols Sowers. Elizabeth died on August 28. 2012. Elizabeth was married to Louis M. “Mel” Sowers who predeceased her. As an officer’s wife in the United States Air Force, Betty was a vivacious and committed participant in the many responsibilities of that position. After Mel’s retirement, Betty pursued a career as a real estate agent in Baton Rouge. When the couple moved to San Antonio, Texas, Betty became actively engaged in community service, volunteering at the Southwest School of Art and Craft and the McNay Museum of Art. Everyone who knew Betty remembers her beauty, her enthusiasm, her irrepressible sense of humor, and her love of the arts.
